A 72-Year-Old First-Time Homebuyer's Move to Be Close to Family
At 72 years old, she bought her very first home.
Let that sink in for a moment.
She had lived in apartments her entire adult life - including the same apartment in California for the last 35 years.
A dream of owning her very own home is unrealistic for her in California; however, here in Georgia - she realized the possibilities.
Many people would assume that owning a home at this later stage of life was no longer possible.
She chose to believe otherwise. And she was correct.
Soon she will be packing up a lifetime of memories and moving across the country to live in Georgia.
Not because she had to. But because she wanted to be closer to the people she loves most.
Here in Georgia, she has an adult son, daughter-in-law, one grandchild, with a second grandchild on the way in just a few weeks.
Think about what that really means.
Instead of boarding airplanes for holidays... she'll simply walk a few steps to enjoy everyone.
Instead of missing birthdays... She'll be there.
Instead of hearing stories over the phone... she'll be present and will help create them.
There will be a lot more time for special memories to be created.
A few days after closing, she wrote something that stopped me in my tracks.
She said:
"I love this man and I haven't even met him.
He helped this senior woman buy her first home from across the country.
He never acted like I called him too many times.
He never made me feel like I was a dummy for not understanding real estate lingo.
I felt so reassured and in safe hands all the way through.
I can't wait to meet him while standing in the front yard of the new house I've been dreaming about since I was a little girl."
That last sentence says everything.
"...the house I've been dreaming about since I was a little girl."
Sometimes we think dreams have expiration dates.
They don't.
Sometimes home isn't just where you live.
It's where life begins again.
That's why I believe... "Behind every transaction is a transition."
